Berlin, one of Europe's big success stories and one of its most cosmopolitan
cities, is again the capital of Germany since the reunification of
Germany in October 1990. The German parliament, Bundestag, and the
German government moved from Bonn to Berlin in 1999. Berlin offers
many sights of great historic interest for you to visit. The best-known
probably is the impressive Brandenburg Gate, built between 1788-1791
with Schadow's quadriga on its top. Walk down Unter den Linden Street
to the Pergamon Museum of Antiquities. See the massive Reichstagsgebaude
- the house of parliament, built 1884-1894. Perhaps you'll tour lovely
Charlottenburg Castle and Bellevue Castle, seat of the President of
the Federal Republic of Germany. Be impressed by the new church that
was built along side the ruins of Kaiser-Wilhelm-Gedachtniskirche.
And the 1936 Olympic stadium, often seen in archival footage, can
still be experienced.
