Depart the USA on flights to Salzburg, Austria.

Arrive Salzburg

Transfer to the hotel to settle in for your four night stay in this

Day 3  Monday, Aug 9                      BD
Sounds of Music/Salzburg Festival

Enjoy a tour with a private local guide of Salzburg to scene locations from the movie Sound Of Music. See Mirabell Palace and gardens where Maria and the children sang Do-Re-Mi, have views of the Benedictine Convent on Nonnberg where Maria was sung, and of Felsenreitschule, where the Trapp family sang their “farewell” song and Baron Von Trapp sang Edelweiss. Then walk through the Old Town of Salzburg, a UNESCO World Heritage site, with medieval lanes and small shops with ironwork signs out front. Visit the birthplace of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, a small museum containing family portraits, original manuscripts and some of the young genius’ early instruments. This evening, attend a performance of the Salzburg Festival, described as the greatest and most important opera and concert festival world-wide, when the best orchestras, virtuoso singers and instrumentalists come to perform in this beautiful baroque town on the River Salzbach. Day 4  Tuesday, Aug 10                    BL
Salzkammergut/Marionetten Theater
Today you drive through glorious Alpine meadows to explore the Salzkammergut, a region of small resort towns and lakes that is very
popular with the Austrians. You’ll see Fuschl, Mondsee, St. Gilgen and Lake Wolfgang, all film locations from The Sound Of Music. Lunch is at the famous White Horse Inn in St. Wolfgang. Back in Salzburg this evening, you are guests at the Salzburger Marionetten Theater, which has a long tradition of productions of Mozart, Tchaikovsky and Strauss. RADISSON SAS ALTSTADT HOTEL

Day 5  Wednesday, Aug 11               B
Herrenchiemsee Castle
The crystal-clear Lake of Chiemsee in Germany is your destination today. On arrival, board a boat for the short trip to the island where one of Mad King Ludwig’s finest castles is located. Though King Ludwig is most famous for his castles in Bavaria, Herrenchiemsee Castle is exquisite both inside and out, and was inspired by the Chateau de Versailles near Paris. Admire the fantastic features of this fabulous castle, including the Hall of Mirrors and the king's personal quarters, then return to Salzburg for the remainder of your day at leisure. Day 6  Thursday, Aug 12                   BL
Melk Abbey/Vienna

This morning set out across Austria to Vienna. Stop in Melk to visit
the famed Benedictine Abbey, which perches high above the town. It’s one of Europe’s finest examples of Baroque architecture, and houses the famous Melk Cross and Abbey Library. Then enjoy a peaceful afternoon cruise on the Danube River through the Wachau wine region. Medieval Durnstein is the best-known town in the region with its instantly recognizable blue Baroque tower known as the Stiftskirche. High above stand the ruins of Kuenringer Castle, where Richard the Lionheart was once prisoner. Arrive in beautiful Vienna in the late afternoon and settle into your hotel. Day 7  Friday, Aug 13                        BD
Vienna/City Tour

A local guide waits to show you the sights of this exquisite city, famed
for its architecture, coffeehouses, pastry shops, classical music—and the waltz. Visit St. Stephen’s Cathedral, a magnificent Viennese landmark, drive the Ringstrasse, and visit Schonbrunn Palace. Schonbrunn was built as a summer residence of the Hapsburgs in 1713.  Forty rooms of the 1411 are open to visit, including the marvelous Baroque reception hall. Your afternoon is at leisure to enjoy Vienna as you please. You might want to drop in at one of the city’s coffeehouses or try a glass of wine in a traditional “heuriger.” And do stroll the Kartnerstrasse, the pedestrian shopping street in the heart of the city that leads to St. Stephen’s Cathedral. Your farewell dinner is at the RADISSON SAS PALAIS HOTEL, the perfect end to a classical tour!

Conclude Vienna

Too soon it’s time to fly home with the music of Mozart and Strauss still echoing in your ears. Transfer to the airport for your return flight.
