Your journey takes you gently and unhurriedly along a waterway renowned for its beauty and its history, the Canal du Midi. Enjoy a range of diverse excursions, from the magnificence of Carcassonne's Camelot-like battlements to the picturesque Minerve, where its residents continue to cultivate their grapes for the production of one of the most popular wines in southern France.


Sunday  Paris / Montpellier / Marseillan    D
At 4pm, from your collection point in Montpellier you will be transferred to Athos, which is moored at the quay in the charming fishing village of Marseillan.

Upon arrival you will be welcomed to a Champagne Reception and given the opportunity to meet your Crew. After settling into your cabins you will be invited to your first excellent Athos dinner.

Monday  Agde    BLD
You will tour the 'Noilly Prat' Vermouth distillery during the morning and at noon Athos leaves the quay. Lunch is served while on the Etang de Thau, an expansive salt water lake. Afterwards you will cruise to Agde. There is time for walking or cycling in Agde in the afternoon. Dinner is on board.

Tuesday  Villeneuve les Beziers    BLD
We cruise through the morning and stop at the Portiragnes lock for lunch. There are cycling & walking opportunities all afternoon. After arriving at Villeneuve les Beziers you will be taken to a wine tasting, before returning for dinner.

Wednesday  Fonserannes Lock    BLD
Athos will leave Villeneuve in the morning and cruise to Beziers and the magnificent Fonserannes 7-lock staircase. The excursion will be a tour about the Canal's construction and a visit to the smallest tunnel on the canal at Malpas. Enjoy another wine tasting before dinner.

Thursday Capestang BLD
Cruise to Capestang in the morning. In the afternoon you will be taken to the medieval-walled village of Minerve. Moor in Capestang for the night and enjoy another excellent four course dinner prepared by our celebrated chef.

Friday Argeliers BLD
The morning's excursion is to the famous La Cite de Carcassonne. Return to the barge for lunch and cruise to Argeliers in the afternoon. This evening we finish off our week with the Captain's Dinner.

Saturday Argeliers / Paris B
After breakfast you will be taken to Montpellier or another local pre-arranged destination.

Note: Itinerary operates in reverse on alternate weeks.

Athos has five twin and one double cabin, each with its own shower room and toilet. All the cabins are fully air conditioned. In the salon there are comfortable sofas and the dining area. The Athos' well-stocked bar can also be found here, serving a variety of drinks including beers, wines and spirits, chilled water and other soft drinks. Upstairs there is an expansive sun-deck with plenty of loungers, chairs and umbrellas. Bicycles for our guests are kept on deck, just tell a Crew member that you wish to go for a cycle and they will prepare the bike, stop the barge and ofeer advice on the best paths to use.
