Day 1 - Arrive Albuquerque
Fly to Albuquerque in time for the 2 PM stroll through the Historic Old Town. Learn about the native peoples living in centuries-old pueblos at the Indian Pueblo Cultural Center. This evening sample the Southwest's explosion of flavors at your welcome dinner. SHERATON ALBUQUERQUE UPTOWN HOTEL
Day 2 - Ruidoso/White Sands National Monument
October tours see the mass ascent of the largest balloon event worldwide, the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta. Leave Albuquerque this morning, following the Camino Real National Scenic Byway and exploring the White Sands National Monument, gleaming with white gypsum dunes. Day 3 - Carlsbad Caverns National Park
In Roswell, see the Peter Hurd and Henriette Wyeth collection of art. This afternoon visit Carlsbad Caverns National Park, a natural wonder cut through the Guadalupe Mountains. The caverns are 20 miles long, run 1,000 feet deep and are a colorful blend of clear pools, graceful stalagmites and glistening limestone. A unique feature, you can return at sunset to watch the famous flight of the thousands of bats as they exit the caverns. CAVERN INN
Day 4 - Lincoln/Santa Fe
Hit the road to Rio Bonito Valley for lunch in a beautiful 1800s adobe home. Lincoln is Billy the Kid and Pat Garrett country, where history still percolates at the Tunstall Store Museum and the Old Lincoln County Courthouse. Continue to Santa Fe, boasting a heritage of Pueblo Indians, Spanish colonial charm and memories of the Mexican-American War. It has the oldest public building in America (the Palace of the Governors) and was founded thirteen years before the Plymouth Colony. HILTON OF SANTA FE
Day 5 - Santa Fe Sightseeing & Free Time
A local Santa Fe guide leads your visits to the Wheelwright Museum of the American Indian and the International Folk Art Museum, containing the largest collection of its kind. Stroll the Plaza area around the Palace of the Governors and see Loretto Chapel and Christo Rey Church. The afternoon is free to explore enchanting Santa Fe. HILTON OF SANTA FE
Day 6 - Chimayo/Taos
Explore in and around Taos the next two days. Los Alamos was the site of much of the country's early nuclear research and Santuario de Chimayo was known for miracle healings in colonial years. Centinela Traditional Arts is a tapestry colony, creating hand-woven wool products in the traditional Chimayo style. Take the High Road to Taos scenic byway through Truchas and Las Trampas, to stay two nights at Historic Taos Inn, born from the large 1800s adobe home of Dr. Thomas Martin. HISTORIC TAOS INN
Day 7 - Taos/Taos Pueblo
At the Millicent Rogers Museum, enjoy the display of Native American jewelry, weavings and the Maria Martinez Family ceramic collection. See spectacular Rio Grande Gorge Bridge, the second highest arch bridge in the USA, and visit Taos Pueblo. The pueblo was built before 1400 AD and is still inhabited by 1,500 Native Americans. Enjoy free time to explore the town's art galleries and Kit Carson's home next to the Plaza. Your farewell dinner is at a classic Taos establishment. HISTORIC TAOS INN.
Day 8 - Conclude Albuquerque
Transfer is provided from Taos to Albuquerque Airport. Flights should not be booked to depart before 12:30 PM. Adios!
