Itinerary

Day 1 - Arrive New Orleans
Bonjour! Make your own way to the hotel and begin your holiday in the French Quarter of the "Big Easy." Get to know everyone tonight at a reception, then stroll down the street to Arnaud's for a classic Creole dinner. OMNI ROYAL ORLEANS

Day 2 - Longue Vue/New Orleans
Have breakfast at Brennan's this morning, a New Orleans tradition. Then tour the city. See famous Jackson Square and stroll Royal and Bourbon streets lined with original French and Spanish architecture. See stately St. Louis Cathedral and its adjoining Cabildo. In the afternoon visit Longue Vue, fashioned after the great country houses of England and surrounded by eight acres of picturesque gardens and fountains. The evening is free so that you may sample some of New Orleans great restaurants. OMNI ROYAL ORLEANS

Day 3 - Natchez Steamboat/New Orleans
This morning, set out aboard the steamboat Natchez for a Mississippi River cruise. For years, the sternwheeler played a major role in Mississippi River trade and provided an elegant alternative to travel by locomotive. The remainder of the afternoon is unscheduled so you may pursue your own interests. This evening, take a short walk to the New Orleans School of Cooking to enjoy a casual, private cooking class and end with a tasting of the Cajun cuisine you've just been taught by the chef! OMNI ROYAL ORLEANS

Day 4 - New Orleans/Lafayette
Today drive to Nottoway, the largest plantation home in the south, a gem of Italianate and Greek Revival style boasting 64 rooms and supported by 22 massive cypress columns. Enjoy a tour and Creole lunch at the plantation. Later, drive through the heart of Evangeline country, past ancient moss-draped oak trees and sugarcane fields to St. Martinville. Located on Bayou Teche, this area was immortalized in Henry Wadsworth Longfellow's tragic Acadian love story. Enjoy a Fais Do-Do tonight at Mulate's, where live Zydeco music and dancing are part of the Cajun dining experience. HILTON LAFAYETTE

Day 5 - Cajun Country/Natchez, Mississippi
Visit the Acadian Village, a folk life museum of raised cottages along a winding bayou, surrounded by gardens and woodlands. The village offers an authentic vision of Acadian society in southern Louisiana during the 19th century. Tour and lunch at Chretien Point, oldest original Greek Revival plantation in the state. Chretien Point's stairway and window were replicated for "Tara" in "Gone with the Wind." Later, continue to Natchez, the classic river town and oldest in Mississippi. Natchez lives in the enchantment of the Old antebellum South, a plantation atmosphere where everything seems beautiful and romantic. Visit Joe Stone home, which has been in the family since 1877 and only recently opened to the public. Joe, an accomplished pianist, will favor you with several selections! EOLA NATCHEZ HOTEL

Day 6 - Vicksburg Battlefield/Natchez
Today is steeped in history. Begin by traveling north on part of the Natchez Trace, perhaps the first highway in America. Arrive in Vicksburg, scene of one of the most decisive Civil War battles, and have a guided tour of the battlefield. Return to Natchez in the afternoon. Tonight you are invited to a farewell dinner at either Dunleath Plantation with its 250 year-old Magnolia or lovely Monmouth Plantation, listed on the National Register of Historic Places. In either case, you will dine on regional favorites that are prepared in the South's finest culinary tradition. EOLA NATCHES HOTEL

Day 7 - Conclude New Orleans
It is reluctantly time to bid farewell the Old South. The coach departs Natchez after breakfast for the four-hour drive to New Orleans Airport. Please do not book flights prior to 2:00PM.
