Itinerary

Day 1 - Arrive Winnipeg, Manitoba
Travel to Winnipeg, Manitoba--named for the Manitou, Native God of Nature. Your hotel offers complimentary shuttle transfer service. Meet your local naturalist tour guide and traveling companions at this evening's get-acquainted reception and dinner at the HILTON SUITES HOTEL.

Day 2 - Winnipeg
A fur trading post at the forks of the Red and Assiniboine Rivers grew into Winnipeg, gateway to the Canadian west. Visit the Manitoba Museum of Man and Nature, St. Boniface Basilica and Upper Fort Garry. Dinner tonight is in the revolving Royal Crown, 30 stories above The Forks. HILTON SUITES HOTEL

Day 3 - Hutterite Colony/Riding Mountain National Park
Today, visit the Hutterite Colony to learn how this communal farm operates. After lunch at the colony, continue to Spruce Woods Provincial Park, ride a horse-drawn covered wagon through the sand hills and see the unique Manitoba "desert." Arrive at Riding Mountain National Park and explore the pristine forests of conifers, deciduous trees and prairie grasslands during your wildlife drive in search of elk, moose, black bear and wolves. Day 4 - Bison herd/Ukrainian heritage
Head out to Lake Audy to see the purebred plains bison herd, then enjoy a picnic lunch on the lakeshore. This evening, drive to Dauphin's Ukrainian community to experience their culture in music and dance, and to taste their delicious cuisine. MCTAVISH'S WASAGAMING LODGE

Day 5 - Churchill
Following another game viewing drive, take a late morning flight to Churchill--the polar bear capital of the world, Canada's only arctic seaport and an important site of Hudson Bay Company activities. After a "Welcome to the North" arctic char dinner, enjoy a presentation of the work of a local photographer. AURORA INN

Day 6 - Churchill
In Churchill, the boreal forest meets the arctic tundra and the river enters the vast Hudson Bay. Churchill is ideally situated for observing the Aurora Borealis and polar bears that migrate through the area from late summer into fall, but you might also see caribou, arctic fox, ringed seals and arctic hares. Pay a visit to the world-famous Eskimo Museum to see Inuit art and artifacts. Tonight, enter a caribou skin tent, a tupik, to learn the traditional ways of the Inuit people who have lived in harmony with this rugged environment for thousands of years. You will hear traditional drumming, see a demonstration of Inuit tools, including the ulus, a knife in the shape of a half moon. AURORA INN

Day 7 - Polar Bear country
Watch out for the bears as you explore the tundra and Hudson Bay in special tundra vehicles. Then, flightsee this amazing landscape by helicopter. This full and exhilarating day includes visiting an Eskimo dog pack. AURORA INN

Day 8 - Winnipeg farewell
Your morning is at leisure before the flight back to Winnipeg. Reminisce tonight at your farewell dinner. HILTON SUITES HOTEL

Day 9 - Conclude Winnipeg
