Day 1 - Depart USA
Depart on your overnight flight for Russia, largest country in the world and a treasure-chest of history.
Day 2 - Arrive St. Petersburg, Russia
Arrive in St. Petersburg, commissioned by Czar Peter the Great 300 years ago, as "Russia's window on the west." Stay 4 nights on Nevsky Prospekt in the heart of town. RADISSON SAS ROYAL HOTEL
Day 3 - St. Isaac's Cathedral/Peter & Paul Fortress/White Nights Festival
Czar Peter the Great decreed that St. Petersburg should rival the beauty and architecture of any European capital. See the Bronze Horseman, the canals and Neva River, the Menshikov Palace, and dazzling Church of Resurrection (Church on Spilled Blood). Visit St. Isaac's Cathedral, decorated with marble and jewel-stones, which holds 10,000 worshipers and whose dome is covered with 200 pounds of pure gold. Within the Peter & Paul Fortress, visit the Peter & Paul Cathedral, the final resting place for most of the royal Romanov family. Day 4 - Hermitage/Winter Palace/Canal cruise/St. Petersburg
Enjoy an early opening of the Hermitage Museum at the Winter Palace to fully appreciate its collections. It is the largest and finest art museum in Russia, renowned for its collection of Impressionist works. See the staterooms where the Bolsheviks arrested the czarist officials in 1917. Lunch is at the Hermitage Restaurant before a cruise on the famous canals and rivers of St. Petersburg. RADISSON SAS ROYAL HOTEL
Day 5 - Pushkin excursion/St. Petersburg
Take Moscow Prospekt to Pushkin, named for Alexander Pushkin, Russia's most famous poet. Visit the summer estate of the Romanov family, known for its gardens, Grotto Pavilion and the Chinese Pagoda. Also visit Pavlovsk (Paul's Palace), last of the imperial estates to be built (in 1786), before returning to St. Petersburg. RADISSON SAS ROYAL HOTEL
Day 6 - Hydrofoil to Peterhof/Train to Moscow
Take a hydrofoil across the Gulf of Finland to Peterhof and visit the Grand Palace, rival of the Palace of Versailles. It is set in a 2,500-acre park dotted with fountains, the Grand Cascade with the statue of Samson and the Lion. Then bid farewell to St. Petersburg on the train to Moscow. Sit back and watch the passing countryside on the 5-hour ride. Stay three nights in Moscow, capital of Russia. Your hotel is near the Kremlin, Red Square and the Bolshoi Theater. Day 7 - Moscow/Kremlin/Armoury Museum/Circus
Explore the Kremlin grounds, the fascinating complex of museums, churches and government buildings. See the Palace of Facets, the oldest public building in Moscow, and the Grand Kremlin Palace. Visit the Armoury and the Diamond Fund to see the spectacular coronation crowns, royal carriages, and famed Faberge Eggs. See the unique cathedrals of medieval Russia including the Assumption Cathedral, the Cathedral of the Annunciation, and the Bell Tower of Ivan the Great. Day 8 - Red Square/St. Basil's Cathedral
Walk to nearby Red Square, historic center of the city. See the Lenin Mausoleum and St. Basil's Cathedral, built by Ivan The Terrible and the most striking of old Russian architecture, with its colorfully distinctive onion domes. The afternoon is free; your opportunity to ride the Moscow Metro to see its ornate stations and check out the GUM department store. Farewell dinner is at MOSCOW MARRIOTT GRAND HOTEL.
Day 9 - Return home
Following breakfast, depart on your return flights to the US.
